Outreach Programs
JAKES
Take Aim
The JAKES Take Aim program presents opportunities for youth ages 17 and younger to try target shooting, clay target shooting and shotgunning in a safe, fun environment.
NWTF state chapters in the lower 48 states have a fully equipped airgun trailer to use during local JAKES and youth events. The trailer contains everything needed to set up an indoor or outdoor airgun range.
Turkey
Hunters Care
Since 2001, NWTF chapters from throughout North America have helped ensure a happy holiday season for their neighbors through the Turkey Hunters Care program. The program is about brightening the holidays for others. NWTF chapters across the country provide frozen, domestic turkeys to less fortunate families in their communities.
To date, over 110,000 turkeys have been donated nationwide to families in need since Turkey Hunters Care began. These impressive numbers are another shining example of NWTF volunteers proving that although the NWTF’s mission is to conserve the wild turkey and preserve our hunting heritage.
Women
in the Outdoors
Prior to the implementation of Women in the Outdoors, NWTF supported female-focused outdoor skills training programs through various organizations. Seeing the demand for such activities for women, the NWTF expanded its outreach efforts to include a formal Women in the Outdoors program in 1998.
In the past decade, the number of women owning firearms and participating in target shooting and hunting has soared. According to Southwick Associates, women now make up more than a quarter of all anglers and represent the fastest growing segment within the hunting and shooting communities.
